Bread & Roses Housing, Inc.

Bread & Roses Housing, Inc. (BRH) is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose mission is to create and preserve affordable homeownership opportunities for low income households. Efficient stewardship of resources, empowerment, sustainability, and neighborhood improvement are key ingredients of all BRH projects. Its extremely efficient development costs of ~$100 sf is due to the discounted services of local construction professionals, pro bono architectural consultation, and the generosity of many in the Greater Lawrence community.

BRH’s low overhead and cost-effective general operating budget maximizes all grants and gifts and distinguishes it as a resourceful and capable steward, and worthy recipient of community resources. BRH takes a comprehensive approach to building communities and supporting its homeowners. Creating sustainable, highly efficient affordable housing options for very low-income families requires developing strong partnerships, having affordable access to land, prioritizing efficiency in design and cost, and remaining grounded in the needs of one’s constituents: very low income Lawrence residents.
